Who is this Mike Moore?

My name is Mike Moore.

I've been hacking with Ruby since before it was cool. Then it got cool. Then, depending on who you ask, it stopped being cool. I just kept doing it anyway.

Somewhere in there I helped start MountainWest RubyConf and the Ruby|Web Conference, and spent a few years talking Ruby on the Rubiverse podcast, all wrapped up now. For a while I also ran a little side business making and selling t-shirts at Ruby Threads, because apparently writing the code wasn't enough, I also had to put jokes about it on a shirt.

These days I spend most of my time architecting and building systems I don't fully trust yet, which is the only way I know how to build ones worth trusting. I'd rather verify a thing than assume it, whether that's a piece of code, a doc someone handed me, or my own last decision. It's slower up front, and it catches real problems before they cost real money, so I've made peace with being the person who asks one more question.

Mostly, though, I just chill with my family and try to stay out of trouble.
